About the book: Auguste Racinet's Le Costume Historique, originally published in France between 1876 and 1888, is an immensely detailed, witty, and comprehensive study of the history of clothing from antiquity to the Industrial Revolution, which – for men – is the great equalizer. This complete reprint, a "feast for the eyes" (FAZ), contains all the original color plates and traces the development of clothing and accessories around the world, from ancient Egypt to the beginnings of French haute couture in the 19th century.
Biography: Françoise Tétart-Vittu studied art history at the Sorbonne and specialized in 18th and 19th century clothing.
