Rizbaf Gabbeh Rug Wool Beige

This Gabbeh rug is traditionally crafted by the Gashgai and Lori nomads in the Fars province around Shiraz. Originally, Gabbeh rugs served as sleeping mats, as their high pile provides warmth. The hand-spun, lanolin-rich wool gives the rug its typical grainy structure and makes it pleasantly soft. The color palette ranges from natural cream, brown, and gray tones to vibrant colors made with plant dyes. Most Gabbehs are simple, but when motifs do occur, they depict stylized scenes from the nomads' daily lives: animals such as goats, camels, or dogs, plants, and people.
