  This handmade Gabbeh rug originates from the Fars province around Shiraz and is traditionally crafted by Gashgai and Lori nomads. Originally, Gabbeh rugs served as sleeping mats, as their high pile provides extra warmth. The use of hand-spun, lanolin-rich wool gives the surface a characteristic, slightly granular structure, making the rug both soft and comfortable. The colors are derived from natural plant dyes and range from classic cream, brown, and gray tones to vibrant red, yellow, green, and blue shades. Most Gabbehs are simple, but occasionally stylized motifs from the everyday life of the nomads, such as animals, plants, or people, can be found.
