Rizbaf Gabbeh Carpet Wool Green

This handmade Gabbeh rug comes from the Fars province around Shiraz and is traditionally crafted by Gashghai and Lori nomads. Originally, Gabbeh rugs served as sleeping mats, as their high pile provides extra warmth. The use of hand-spun, lanolin-rich wool gives the surface a characteristic, slightly grainy texture, making the rug soft and comfortable at the same time. The colors are derived from natural plant dyes and range from classic natural tones to strong red, yellow, green, and blue shades. Most Gabbehs are simple, but occasionally stylized motifs from the daily life of the nomads, such as animals, plants, or people, can be found.
