About the book: This remarkable collection of over 30 years of photographic work unites Sebastião Salgado's powerful black-and-white images of Africa in one volume. The shots tell the story of a continent devastated by unrest, yet immeasurably rich in history and culture. With understanding and humility, Salgado shows us some very different regions surviving in the face of ecological and humanitarian crises.

Biography: Sebastião Salgado (1944–2025) began his photography career in Paris in 1973 and worked for Sygma, Gamma, and Magnum Photos. In 1994, he founded the agency Amazonas Images with his wife Lélia Wanick Salgado. His major projects include Sahel, Other Americas, Terra, Migrations, Africa, Genesis, Gold, and Amazônia.

Mia Couto, the best-known writer from Mozambique, has published over 20 books in novel, short story, and poetry form, which have been translated into over 20 languages. His debut novel *The Land of the Sleeping Wanderers* is considered one of the most important African works of the 20th century. He has received numerous national and international awards and lives as an environmental biologist in Maputo.

Lélia Wanick Salgado studied architecture and urban planning, discovered her passion for photography in 1970, and has been designing most of Sebastião Salgado's photo books as well as all his exhibitions since the 1980s.
