Turkmen carpets originate from northeastern Iran and are made by Turkish-speaking nomads and settled Turkmen tribes. The designs are based on linear, repeating patterns of octagonal shapes called "Gül", which differ for each tribe. The dominant color palette is red; however, all other color variations are also possible in these classic nomadic carpets.
