About the book: Since the 90s, Sandro Vannini has created photographic reproductions that show wall paintings and artifacts with unprecedented detail. This comprehensive volume combines the contemporary understanding of the ancient Egyptian underworld with the latest photography techniques and depicts, in impressive images and texts by numerous Egyptologists, the adventurous journey through the afterlife that the pharaoh was to undertake after his death.
Biography: Sandro Vannini began his career as a photographer in 1982 and today commutes between Italy and Egypt, where he has been working on projects since 1997. Thanks to a special permit from the ministry, he gained access to locations that are closed to the public, allowing him to compile an extensive image archive of ancient Egyptian culture over two decades. He pioneered state-of-the-art digital photography under the extreme temperature conditions in the Valley of the Kings. With the help of Vannini's detailed shots, the Egyptian National Museum in Cairo restores damaged artifacts. Vannini is the author of several books. Since 2016, he has been producing TV shows and documentaries in Egypt in collaboration with Zahi Hawass.
