Biography: Rainer Metzger studied art history, history, and German literature in Munich. He received his doctorate in 1994 on Dan Graham and was an art critic for the Viennese newspaper Der Standard. He has written numerous art books, including volumes on Van Gogh and Chagall. Since 2004, he has held a professorship for art history at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design.
