About the Book: As the first woman to scientifically utilize the still-young medium of photography, Anna Atkins captured the delicate grace of algae and ferns in artistic images using a cyanotype process. This volume presents her works "British Algae" and "Cyanotypes of British and Foreign Fern" in their entirety for the first time and showcases her pioneering technique of photographically documenting botanical species around 1850.
Biography: Peter Walther has published numerous works on literary, photographic, and contemporary history topics, including books on Goethe, Fontane, Thomas Mann, Hans Fallada, and writers in the First World War, as well as some illustrated works with historical color photographs. He is the author of the TASCHEN publications "The First World War in Colour" (2014), "New Deal Photography. USA 1935–1943" (2016), and "Anna Atkins. Cyanotypes" (2023).
