Biography: H.R. Giger (1940–2014) was a Swiss painter, sculptor, and set designer who fused surrealist influences and dark fantasies into his own biomechanical universe. He first gained recognition in the 1960s for his fantasy depictions of post-apocalyptic creatures and landscapes using airbrush techniques, and he became famous through well-known film work, most notably his creation of "Alien" for the film of the same name, which won an Oscar for Best Visual Effects.
