Biography: Michael Bockemühl (1943–2009) studied art history, philosophy, and church history in Munich and Bochum. He completed his postdoctoral qualification in 1984 at the Ruhr University Bochum and worked as a private lecturer in Medieval and Modern Art History before being appointed Professor of Art Science, Aesthetics, and Art Mediation at the University of Witten/Herdecke in 1990. At TASCHEN, he published monographs on Rembrandt (1991) and Turner (1991).
