About the Book: Rembrandt was already revered as a genius during his lifetime and has fascinated generations of artists ever since. His hallmark, the rough, impasto brushwork, his unique handling of light and sensitivity not only paved new ways in portraiture. This volume presents all 330 paintings by the grand master of the Golden Age.

Biography: Marieke de Winkel studied Art History and Classical Archaeology in Amsterdam as well as Costume History at the Courtauld Institute, London. From 1993 to 2003, she was a research fellow at the Rembrandt Research Project and earned her doctorate in 2003 on costume in Rembrandt's work.

Rudie van Leeuwen studied Art History in Nijmegen and earned his doctorate in 2018 on the portrait historié in Dutch painting of the 16th and 17th centuries. He was a co-initiator and collaborator of the Rembrandt Documents Project (RemDoc.org) and designed, among other things, the integral search function.

After a doctorate on the iconography of the Old Testament in Rembrandt, he was, among other things, a professor at Queen's University, Canada, and has been teaching at Radboud University in Nijmegen since 2003.
