Exotic plants, snakes and crocodiles, double-headed monsters, hydras and dragons: Albertus Seba's unique catalog of fascinating creatures is not only one of the greatest scientific achievements of the 17th century, but also one of the most valuable natural history books of all time. This magnificent reproduction was created based on a rare, hand-colored original.

Biography: Irmgard Müsch studied art history, history and archaeology in Mainz and Berlin. Her doctoral thesis deals with Johann Jakob Scheuchzer's Kupfer-Bibel, a magnificent scientific Bible commentary from the early 18th century. She has published on the art of the 18th and 20th centuries, among other topics. Jes Rust studied geology, paleontology and zoology in Göttingen and Kiel. Since 2001 he has been a professor at the Institute for Paleontology at the University of Bonn. His research projects since 1996 include the systematics, phylogeny and paleobiology of insects, the evolution of form and evolution of sea urchins in geological time periods, and insects from the Middle Eocene. Rainer Willmann is a professor of zoology at the University of Göttingen and director of the Zoological Museum there. His main scientific interests lie in the fields of phylogenetic research and evolution, as well as in biodiversity research and its history. He is a co-founder of the Center for Biodiversity Research and Ecology at the University of Göttingen.
