Biography: Michael Bockemühl (1943–2009) studied Art History, Philosophy, and Church History in Munich and Bochum. He completed his postdoctoral lecturing qualification (Habilitation) in 1984 at the Ruhr University Bochum and worked as a private lecturer for Medieval and Modern Art History before receiving the chair for Art History, Aesthetics, and Art Education at the University of Witten/Herdecke in 1990. At TASCHEN, he published monographs on Rembrandt (1991) and Turner (1991).
