About the Book: The most elegant typefaces in printing history in historical specimen books. Based on a renowned Dutch collection, this extensive documentation traces the development of printing typefaces from 1628 to the mid-20th century.

Biography: Alston W. Purvis teaches in the United States at the Department of Visual Arts, College of Fine Arts, Boston University. In addition, he has authored numerous works on graphic design. Cees W. de Jong works as a designer and publisher in Naarden, Netherlands. He has edited numerous books on design, architecture, art, and graphic design, and currently works as a design and publishing consultant and author. Jan Tholenaar was a passionate collector of all types of type specimen prints and the owner of countless precious design catalogs and specimen books. He died in his hometown of Amsterdam in early 2009.
