About the book: Subtle lighting direction, great color effects, sophisticated image compositions, and astonishing psychological depth of field: Johannes Vermeer left posterity only a few works – but they are packed with substance. Karl Schütz’s highly praised monograph reveals the secrets of a genius who led genre painting to unimagined heights artistically and in terms of content.
Biography: After studying art history and archaeology at the University of Vienna, Karl Schütz initially worked as a curator from 1972 and from 1990 to 2011 as director at the Gemäldegalerie of the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna.
