About the book: Lemons, limes, and bitter oranges float like celestial bodies above Italian villas, Nuremberg gardens, and picturesque landscapes in J. C. Volckamer's ode to the citrus fruit. This volume is based on one of the few surviving sets of hand-colored copperplate engravings from the 18th century and shows around 170 citrus varieties. In the style of surreal scenes, they evoke a time when such fruits were still truly exotic.
