Kelim Gashgai Wool Multicolor

The Gashgai are Turkic-speaking, nomadic tribes who live in the region around Shiraz in southwestern Iran. Their kilims are traditional, double-sided flat weaves made of wool, created by the characteristic slit weave. This weave is characterized by the fact that small slits are created in the weft during color changes. The carpets are richly decorated with classic Gashgai motifs such as rhombuses, squares, stripes, and Caucasian star patterns. Strong colors such as blue, yellow, red, green, and beige are used for the design, giving the kilims their vibrant and diverse effect.
