The Gashgai are Turkish-speaking, nomadic tribes who live in the region around Shiraz in southwestern Iran. Their Kilims are double-sided, flat wool carpets that are created by the characteristic slit weaving. This creates small slits in the weft where the colors change. Typical patterns of these carpets are rhombuses, squares, stripes, and Caucasian star motifs. Vibrant colors such as blue, yellow, red, green, and beige are used for the design, which give the carpets their lively and traditional appeal.
