Getting the picture right: How to shoot great photos

We all know it from our favourite Instagram accounts: a great photo can make you want to do a little shopping.
You can use this to your advantage with your COCOLI listing by photographing your product optimally.
How is that best achieved? We'll tell you here.

The following applies to all photos:

  • For each listing, you must upload at least 2, maximum 12 photos
  • We accept the following files: JPG, GIF, or PNG
  • Width and height of each photo must be at least 460 pixels.
  • 1. Show your product from multiple angles
  • 2. Your pictures should be sharp
  • 3. Put your product in the perfect light
  • 4. Do not crop the product
  • 5. Do not obscure your product
  • 6. Document signs of wear and flaws precisely
  • 7. Show products in context and scale
  • 8. Better leave out filters
  • 9. Show manufacturer seals, trademarks, labels, or documents
  • 10. Do not upload manufacturer photos
    • 1. Show your product from multiple angles

Buyers want to know as much as possible about your product. Therefore, if possible, show
one view each of the front, left, right, top, and bottom. Close-ups of textures and materials,
for example for upholstered furniture, are important. You should also visually document defects such as scratches, scuffs, dents,
      or chipped paint.

    • 2. Your pictures should be sharp

Unfortunately, we cannot accept blurred or shaky pictures,
as the shape and color of your product cannot then be clearly recognized.

      Better not like this:
    • 3. Put your product in the perfect light

Always photograph your item in daylight but not in direct sunlight,
or against the light. A bright room is ideal. And although our graphic designers will still
edit your photo, you should also avoid extreme shadows.

      Better not like this:
    • 4. Do not crop the product

Your main photo should show the entire product. Avoid cropping parts or
not depicting them. In the other pictures, which should then show details,
you can of course zoom in.

      This is correct:
    • 5. Do not obscure your product

The main photo should show the product against a neutral background and without much
clutter around it. If there are too many objects in the picture,
it is sometimes not entirely clear which one is for sale.
It is also more difficult for us to retouch.

      Better not like this:
    • 6. Document signs of wear and flaws precisely

Scratches, dents, stains, defects, and signs of wear are to be expected with second-hand products
and our customers expect them. But to avoid returns,
you must describe them precisely in the text and also show them visually.
Tip: By holding a pencil, a tape measure, or a coin against the damaged area,
you can see exactly how big a scratch is.

      This is correct:
    • 7. Show products in context and scale

To give our customers a sense of the size and dimensions of your product,
you can photograph it next to other everyday objects. A bowl of fruit on a
table or books in a cabinet help customers imagine what the item
might look like in their own four walls.

      This is correct:
    • 8. Better leave out filters

The goal is to depict the color and texture of your product as accurately as possible.
Therefore, we cannot accept photos with effect filters.

      Better not like this:
    • 9. Show manufacturer seals, trademarks, labels, or documents

If your item has a visible trademark or label, you should show it in the photos.
Purchase receipts or documents that prove the authenticity of a design are also important.
They can convince customers of the product and increase the price.

    • 10. Do not upload manufacturer photos

Please do not upload photos from the manufacturer or from other online shops.
We do not own the image rights to such photos and therefore may not use them.
Furthermore, such photos always show the new condition of a product and are therefore not a
      truthful depiction of second-hand goods.
