About the book: The Berlin of the 1920s, the celebrating, fast-paced metropolis full of excessive zest for life, is one of the great myths of the 20th century. This uniquely atmospheric book combines illustrations by Robert Nippoldt and texts by Boris Pofalla to create an atmospherically dense portrait of this pulsating city, its people and ideas in a decade full of upheavals and extremes – from the lights of the grand boulevards to the gray of the tenement buildings, from the shouts in the sports halls to the silence of the theater halls.
Biography: Boris Pofalla studied art history and general and comparative literature at the Freie Universität Berlin. He is an author and art critic for Die Welt. His debut novel Low was published in 2015. He lives in Berlin. Robert Nippoldt is an illustrator and book designer.
