All the classics of the "Black Series," their themes, archetypes, and peculiarities in this richly illustrated volume.

Biography: Alain Silver is a film producer, critic, and historian, and the author of 20 books, including The Noir Style, LA Noir, and the Film Noir Reader series, as well as TASCHEN's Movie Icons volumes on Steve McQueen, Frank Sinatra, and Katharine Hepburn. He has written DVD commentaries for several film noir classics. Silver studied film production and critical studies at UCLA and is a member of several US film associations.

James Ursini co-authored eleven books with Silver, including the Film Noir Reader series, wrote articles for film magazines, DVD commentaries, and taught at colleges in Los Angeles.

Jürgen Müller holds the Chair for Medieval and Modern Art History at TU Dresden, has published on art and film history topics, and is the editor of the Dekaden film book series at TASCHEN.

Paul Duncan is a film historian and has published numerous works at TASCHEN, including The Star Wars Archives, The James Bond Archives, Film Noir, Horror Cinema, and books on directors, genres, and film stars.
