Über das Buch: Religious frescoes, portraits of the Spanish high nobility and royal house, socio-critical caricatures, a "Naked Maja" and depictions of horrific war atrocities – the work of Francisco José de Goya has many facets. Using key works from his oeuvre, this introduction explores the astonishing diversity of his themes and motifs and traces the influence he had on subsequent generations of artists – from Eugène Delacroix to the enfants terribles of Britart, brothers Jake and Dinos Chapman.
