This Kilim originates from the traditional environment of the Gashgai, a Turkish-speaking, nomadic community from the region around Shiraz in southwestern Iran. Typical for these carpets is the flat slit weave, which can be used on both sides, where characteristic weaving slits are created by color changes. The patterns include classic Gashgai elements such as rhombuses, squares, stripes, and Caucasian star shapes. For the color design, strong natural tones such as blue, yellow, red, green, and beige are traditionally used, which give the carpet a lively and authentic appearance.
