About the book: With his Olympia, Manet caused one of the biggest scandals in art history in 1865. He was a thorn in the side of the representatives of Salon painting with their conventional conception of art, and he was considered a role model for the young avant-garde. This introduction sheds light on Manet's exciting special position between painting tradition and Impressionism.
