About the book: When Henri Matisse was no longer able to paint in his old age due to illness, he turned to paper cutouts and created a body of work that is among his most influential and popular: colorful collages made of colored paper, lively improvisations of color and rhythm, the culmination of his lifelong quest for the perfect synthesis of line and color.
Biography: Gilles Néret (1933–2005) was an art historian, journalist, writer, and exhibition critic. He organized several art retrospectives in Japan and founded the SEIBU Museum and the Wildenstein Gallery in Tokyo. He managed art magazines such as L'Œil and Connaissance des Arts and received the Prix Élie Faure in 1981 for his publications. His publications with TASCHEN include Dalí – The Paintings, Matisse, and Erotica Universalis.
