About the book
The autograph collection of Pedro Corrêa do Lago is one of the largest in the world: Over 100,000 manuscripts by famous personalities from nine centuries are presented here. This volume shows the most interesting, historically significant, and original documents – from medieval popes to Frida Kahlo and Stephen Hawking – and explains them in their respective biographical context.

Christine Nelson is Drue Heinz Curator of Literary and Historical Manuscripts at the Morgan Library & Museum and has curated exhibitions on Thoreau, Charlotte Brontë, Oscar Wilde, and many others.
Julius Wiedemann is the author of numerous TASCHEN titles on illustration, record covers, infographics, advertising, and design.
Pedro Corrêa do Lago is a Brazilian art historian, curator, and collector. He founded the publishing house Capivara, was director of the National Library of Brazil, and has published over 20 books, including Schriftstücke (2005).
Location of the collection
The Morgan Library & Museum in New York, which emerged from the private library of J. P. Morgan, today preserves important manuscripts, literary manuscripts, music manuscripts, rare books, drawings, and ancient art.
