The Gashgai are Turkic-speaking, nomadic tribes who live in the region around Shiraz in southwestern Iran. Their Kilims are flat woolen rugs that can be used on both sides, created by the characteristic slit weaving. This creates small slits in the weft where the colors change. Typical patterns of these rugs are rhombuses, squares, stripes, and Caucasian star motifs. Strong colors such as blue, yellow, red, green, and beige are used for the design, giving the rugs their vibrant and traditional appeal.
